Gerry’s Visa Building Design on Park Road, Islamabad: A Paradigm of Adaptive Reuse and Functional Design

Gerry’s, a prominent name in travel and logistics services, has long been a staple in Islamabad’s business landscape. Their expansion necessitated a new, purpose-built structure that would not only accommodate their growing operations but also reflect their forward-thinking ethos.

Site Context:

The new Gerry’s visa office is strategically located on Park Road, Islamabad, a bustling thoroughfare known for its accessibility and proximity to key diplomatic areas. The client possessed an existing building with an underutilized plot at the rear, presenting an opportunity for innovative spatial planning and adaptive reuse.

Architectural Approach:

The design team at Primarc Studio embraced the challenge of creating a structure that would seamlessly integrate with the existing building while maintaining its own distinct identity. The facade, characterized by its minimalist aesthetic, is clad in white stone, creating a monolithic yet elegant presence that respects the urban fabric of the area.

Flexibility in Design:

A key consideration in the architectural program was flexibility. The new structure was conceived with two primary scenarios in mind:

  1. Integration: The design allows for seamless integration with the existing building, facilitating a cohesive operational flow for Gerry’s expanding needs.
  2. Multi-tenancy: Alternatively, the building’s layout permits the leasing of individual floors, catering to the dynamic real estate market of Islamabad.

Functional Aspects:

The building boasts two subterranean levels dedicated to parking, addressing the critical need for ample vehicle accommodation in this bustling district. This thoughtful inclusion not only meets local zoning requirements but also enhances the property’s value proposition.

In line with contemporary architectural trends, the design incorporates courtyards and open spaces throughout the building. These serve as biophilic nodes, improving indoor air quality, providing natural light, and creating tranquil spaces for relaxation and informal meetings.

Vertical Circulation:

To ensure efficient movement within the structure, four high-speed elevators have been strategically placed. This robust vertical transportation system is designed to handle the potential high foot traffic if Gerry’s occupies the entire building, ensuring smooth operations across all levels.

Construction status:

As of now, the project is in the advanced stages of construction. The core and shell are complete, and work is progressing rapidly on the interior fit-out phase. The meticulous attention to detail in the design development and construction documentation stages is evident in the quality of work on site.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the project team anticipates that the building will be ready for occupancy within the next eight to ten months. This timeline includes final finishes, MEP systems integration, and obtaining necessary occupancy certifications.

In conclusion, this project exemplifies Primarc Studio’s commitment to creating adaptable, functional, and aesthetically pleasing architectural solutions that respond to both client needs and urban contexts.
