Expert Landscape Design, Functional, Aesthetic, and Sustainable

Landscape design is essential to creating sustainable, functional buildings and spaces. A well-designed landscape can enhance the aesthetic appeal (جمالیاتی اپیل) of a building while also providing practical benefits such as reducing energy costs, improving air quality, and promoting biodiversity. But first, we must address the introduction, what is landscape design?

What is Landscape Design, and How Does it Enhance Buildings and Spaces

Landscape design is the art and science of designing and arranging the features of a land area, including the elements of living plants, water, and other natural and man-made materials. Landscape designers use their horticulture, engineering, and design skills to create functional, aesthetic, and sustainable outdoor spaces. The goal of Primarc Studio is to use landscape design to enhance the natural beauty of a space and make it functional and enjoyable for the people who use it, ensuring that it also complements the facade or the architectural design.

What is Landscape Design, and How Does it Enhance Buildings and Spaces

One of the most important aspects of landscape design is creating outdoor spaces that are functional and enjoyable for the people who use them. For example, a well-designed park can provide a relaxing and peaceful environment for residents to enjoy while promoting community engagement and physical activity.

Purpose of Landscape Design

Landscape design can significantly impact a person’s mood and overall well-being. Studies have shown that exposure to nature and green spaces can reduce stress, improve mood, and increase overall well-being. Some of the ways landscape design can help mood include:

Providing a Sense of Calm and Tranquillity:

Well-designed landscapes offer a peaceful, serene environment that can reduce stress and promote relaxation. Elements such as water features, natural stone, and green spaces can create calm and tranquillity.

Promoting Physical Activity:

Landscape design can also promote physical activity by providing opportunities for walking, running, and other forms of exercise. This can improve physical health and also increase feelings of well-being.

Improving Air Quality:

Landscapes that include plants and green spaces can improve air quality by absorbing pollutants and releasing oxygen. This can help to improve overall health and well-being.

Enhancing Social Interaction:

Landscape design can also promote social interaction by providing opportunities for people to gather and connect with others. This can help to improve mood and overall well-being.

Creating a Sense of Place:

Landscape design can also create a sense of place, making people feel more connected to their environment and promoting feelings of belonging.

Landscape design and 3D Visualization

Landscape design and 3D visualization are closely related, as 3D visualization can be an essential tool in the landscape design process. Primarc Studio’s architects may employ 3D visualization to generate photorealistic renderings of a landscape, which they can then present ideas to clients and finalize plans in advance of building. This saves valuable time and money throughout the construction process.

Design Process of Landscape Design at Primarc Studio

We envision the space in every context. What impact will the structure have on its landscape and vice versa. Thus landscape is essential and goes hand in hand with enhancing the design and creating sustainable and functional buildings. To help you understand the process, here is how we tackle our landscape design process at Primarc Studio. For context, we will be discussing Jamal Farmhouse’s landscape design which was done by Primarc Studio at Gulberg Greens, Islamabad.

Site Analysis:

The first step is to visit the site, conduct a thorough analysis of the site, and document it along the way. We take note of its topography, soil condition, drainage, site orientation, climate, and existing vegetation. Also, the house’s facade is a significant factor in deciding the direction of the landscape design.

Regarding Jamal Brothers Farmhouse, we were tasked to redesign its facade and landscape design. So we were free of restrictions that come with the house’s exterior.

Concept Development:

Based on the site analysis of Jamal Farmhouse, we then started to develop conceptual ideas for the landscape design, taking into consideration the project’s goals, the client’s wishes, the budget, and any applicable zoning and building codes which were applicable there.

Concept Development:

Design Development:

We then take the finalized conceptual ideas approved by the client and start working them into detailed designs and plans, including layout, materials, and lighting, and begin depicting those ideas in 3d visualization. We started selecting plants and trees that would be suitable according to the facade at this stage with our Horticultural specialist.

Design Development:

In the case of Jamal House, we had selected how the back lawn would look, places for vegetables, pathways, garages, a bbq place, and a gazebo. And after everything in the design phase has been approved by the client, we only then move on to the next stage.

Construction Documents:

The finalized design is then used to create detailed construction documents, including drawings and specifications, which guide the construction process.

We held meetings with the site supervisor and the construction teams to ensure that we were all on the same page and then proceeded toward the execution phase.

Site Supervision:

During construction, our team of architects conducts site visits to ensure that the project is being built according to the construction documents. We keep the site under supervision, keep updating the construction documents when needed, and hand out shop drawings as minor changes are required.

Site Supervision:

Throughout this process, the design team works closely with the client, stakeholders, and other consultants, such as civil engineers and irrigation engineers, to ensure that the final design meets the project’s goals and budget.
